THE TRENDS YOU MUST KNOW FRESH FROM THE New York RUNWAYS

Now that the 2020 spring runways have officially come to a close, it’s time to start reflecting on the trends that emerged along the way.

COLOURful jewellery

Designers strayed away from the classic gold and silver and dipped their toes into colourful accents and pieces this season, just in time for spring. From floral beaded pieces at Ulla Johnson, mismatched tones at Marc Jacobs and gemstones with Brandon Maxwell, this season was all about enjoying the playful expression of accessories.

PEARL ACCENTS

Pearls have been an essential in every wardrobe ever since Coco Chanel made them relevant, and they seem to still be going strong for this season. The timeless material made appearances in all shapes and forms, from single drop earrings and layered necklaces, to clips and headpieces, pearl jewellery made an appearance in almost every collection.

SINGLE EARRINGS

Earrings are seen to be going solo in the coming season. Past seasons we have witnessed the mis matched earrings but the single earring dominated the spring 2020 runways. While this may seem odd and unnatural, you can see the progression of this trend starts with Alesha Dixon (a judge on Britain's Got Talent). Many stores such as Alana Marie and By Charlotte can been seen even selling earrings separately and not in pairs to enable mixing and matching.

HOOPS

Hoops earrings are a style that never really left, as it can be morphed into so many seasons and looks, but be prepared to see them multiply in size this seasons with big hoops becoming a craze. There has been a negative stigma placed on the size of hoops in previous yers, however 2020 is screaming for that to stop as we will see an insane amount of craze around the statement pieces — especially those with textures, shells, gold and gemstones. So don’t go throwing out the hoops you’ve had in your jewellery draw any time soon.
